Blog Action Day: Inequality

What is inequality?

I remember, when I was in high school, we were asked to memorize the preamble of the Philippine constitution.

"We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve the develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution".

There.

"...under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality!"

In a perfect world that line would be true, but not in the real world.  Everyday, everywhere and in any village or city, Maybe you can just walk around for a few minutes around your neighborhood, or in your village, and you'd be able to see some inequality around you. Be it social, economic, racial or cultural inequality, and usually the most common, gender inequality, most of us have experienced this one way or another.

And today, being a blog action day talking about inequality, we all raise awareness on this issue that we, as humans, can definitely help eradicate. I think it doesn't start with the government, or with the school, or with any organization. I think it should start with us, as individuals. It should start in our family, in the way we treat each other. It's a big and difficult issue, I know. I don't have all the solutions, either. But we have to start somewhere.

Let's talk inequality.
