August 15, 2015, which falls on a Saturday, is the 70th year anniversary of Korea's independence from Japanese colonization. And luckily for us here in Seoul, President Park Geun-Hye declared today, the eve of the anniversary, a holiday!
And with this three-day weekend, most Seoulites will be travelling to the provinces, while some of us left in the city will be relaxing around amidst the summer heat to catch up with friends and to check out some events today and tomorrow.
And if you're downtown, there will be a free concert at the Seoul Plaza on the eve of Liberation Day, and an even bigger celebration on the day itself.
(Center stage being readied for a concert)
If you're heading there today, you'll see for yourself a decorated old City Hall building adorned with a yellow hanok-like cover with the red and blue yang-eum centerpiece.
And make sure you get there early for the 7:30PM concert. Hundreds (or maybe thousands!) may have the same idea.
Happy Independence Day, Korea!
And enjoy your long weekend, everyone!
Oooh mukhang masayang palabas iyan ah... Like a nice variety show in the Philippines :-)
